The Rundown

One of Alister MacKenzie's finest designs, Pasatiempo is the premier golf course available to the public in California. MacKenzie was commissioned by Marian Hollins to build the greatest course west of the Mississippi and delivered a brilliant design that sits in the Santa Cruz hills. Pasatiempo's back nine is considered by many as one of the greatest nines in all of golf and the famed par 4 16th was declared by MacKenzie as the greatest two shot hole he ever built. At Pasatiempo golfers will find one of the finest golden age golf architecture experiences available to everyone.

Course commentary

Pasatiempo is the country's premier public-accessible Alister MacKenzie golf course. The front nine is often overshadowed by the course's extraordinary back nine but has a number of world class holes. The opening stretch of holes sets the tone for the round. It's a shame that due to safety concerns and housing encroachment that the greatness of the 6th and 7th have been limited by tree plantings. The 16th often gets the acclaim but I feel that the 14th, is one of the finest par 4's in the world. Pasatiempo is a golf course that I would recommend everyone seeing before they die.
