Paulie's Picks: The PGA Championship

Well, Glory’s Last Shot has come a little early this year with the PGA being contested only two weeks after the British. The PGA has historically had the strongest field of any major and this year is no exception. There are plenty of good players to choose from this week. Here are 4 players you may want to roster:

Jordan Spieth - $11,100

I absolutely love Spieth this week at this salary. It will be an absolute grind fest this week and there is no better grinder than Jordan. I expect a large number of people to play the three players priced above Spieth (DJ, Day, and Rory) and the two players below Spieth (Phil and Stenson).  By being priced in this range I expect his ownership to be around 10%. Spieth very well could be the guy that can lead to a winning lineup this week by putting his hands on the 3rd leg of the Grand Slam.

Sergio Garcia - $9,400

He hasn't finished worse than 5th in over two months (including the British and US Opens)!! His combination of length and accuracy off the tee should work well for him this week. Could Garcia be the 4th first-time major winner this year?

Francesco Molinari - $6,100

When looking at golfers this far down on the salary rung, you need to look for guys who are playing well, have upside for a top 10 finish, and are a safe bet to make the cut. Molinari checks all three of these boxes. He has top 10s in 2 of his last 3 events. He is known as a great ball striker(albeit short) with a solid short game. Look for Molinari to make the cut and record a top 25 which will more than pay off for this cheap salary.

Charl Schwartzel - $7,300

It's not often you can find a major champion who makes almost every cut and performs well in big events, priced this cheaply. He has 5 straight top 25s, including the British and US Opens. He has shown the ability to be one of the best golfers in the world when he is on his game. I expect him to be very highly  owned this week, but I'm still rostering him as he has too much upside to pass up.
