Well this sure is an exciting time for golf with the world’s top 3 heading into this week with a win in their last start. Since most people will want to have at least one of these players in their lineup, here are a few sneaky value plays so you can spend more on some of the top players:
Daniel Berger: $7,800
He has played extremely well over the past three months with all 9 finishes making it into the top 30. Even though he missed the cut in the 2015 Memorial, he has the pedigree to succeed at this course with his length and ability to make a lot of birdies.
Russell Knox: $7,600
Knox is a player who never gets enough credit for his success. Did you know that he has 3 runner-up finishes this season worldwide? Expect his ownership to be low this week after missing the cut on the number at last week’s BMW PGA Championship in England (which could be a blessing in disguise, giving him more time to recover from any jet lag). In his prior 3 starts, he finished runner up at the Irish Open, 19th at the Players and 2nd at the Heritage. Add that to the fact that he finished top 20 last year at Memorial, and I am more than willing to toss him into some lineups this week.
Jason Dufner: $8,400
Fresh off a 6th place finish at Colonial, Dufner looks to continue the good play this week in his home state of Ohio. Dufner has good course history, finishing in the top 25 the past two years at the Memorial. In fact, in the first two rounds last year, Dufner was 11 under while recording 9 birdies and 4 eagles (including an ace in Round 2). So it's safe to say he likes this course, which is a perfect fit for him as it rewards solid iron play. Most people consider Dufner a poor putter because he ranks outside the top 150 on Tour inside 10 feet. However, he actually ranks within the top 20 on Tour outside of 20 feet. Due to the difficulty of the course setup, players will have a higher percentage of mid-range birdie putts, so look for Dufner to sneak up the leaderboard and have a chance to contend come Sunday.
Kevin Chappell: $7,500
So, you are probably wondering… Am I Kevin Chappell’s biggest fan since I have picked him multiple times recently? Yes, I am. I will continue to pick him when he is clearly drastically underpriced on DraftKings. And even though he is underpriced, I don't expect his ownership to be out of this world since he missed last week's cut (by only one shot). Prior to last week, he had 4 top 10s in his last six starts. He has shown the ability to play well at the Memorial as evidenced by his 2nd place finish in the 2013 edition. His strong tee to green game will pay dividends this week.
