Seamus Power is your leader at the FedEx St. Jude Classic after firing an opening-round 65 at TPC Southwind. Power is in his second year on tour but has yet to breakout in his young career. He won on the Web.com Tour in 2016 on his way to finishing 9th on the money list. So far he has notched two top 10s in 2018 on the PGA Tour with his best finish being a T-5 at Punta Cana. Leaderboard
In the Hunt
By the end of the day, 11 players ended up at -4 in Memphis. Amongst that group are big names like Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka. With the U.S. Open looming next week, it seems fitting that these players would be near the top of the leaderboard. Phil is notoriously in search of his first U.S. Open title after many heartbreaks, and Koepka is the reigning champ after his Erin Hills victory.
Also in the hunt are names like Wesley Bryan (-4), Chris Kirk (-4), Michael Kim (-4), Dustin Johnson (-3), and CT Pan (-3). Ben An also got off to a good start (-3) after his playoff loss to Bryson Dechambeau last weekend.
Steve Stricker, fresh off qualifying for the U.S. Open, is also in the mix after a first-round 66. Stricker is in his age 51 season and has already notched two top-25 finishes. His best finish of the season was a T12 at the Valspar back in March. He will be in the hunt for his first major championship at Shinnecock Hills.
The 40th Curtis Cup will get underway at Quaker Ridge on Friday. Similar to the Walker Cup, the Curtis Cup pits the best female amateurs from the U.S. against the best female amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland. The home team has won the cup in each of the last four meetings, so the USA will try to keep up that trend. Meet the USA team and GB&I team before coverage starts this weekend!
U.S. Open Pairings
The first two rounds of U.S. Open pairings were announced on Thursday. Leading the charge in big name groupings is the trio of Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson. Other pairings of note include Rory McIlory, Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson, Jason Day and Brooks Koepka. Full List
