The latest sideshow

Happy Birthday to us...

Today marks the anniversary of the first edition of the fried egg. I want to thank all of you for the support along the way. I figured many don’t know the story of how the fried egg started, so I wrote about it here

Class is in session

150 professionals are battling in Orlando for playing status on next year’s Web.com Tour. Through the 1st of 4 rounds, veteran Brice Garnett is in the lead by 2 shots after a first round 7-under 65. The 33-year-old has spent the last couple of years bouncing between the PGA Tour and Web.com Tour and looks earn full-status with a win at Q-School. Chasing Garnett is a group of 10 players at 5-under that include near Web.com Tour winner Dan Woltman, former PGA Tour player Michael Letzig and Chase Parker who made the cut at this year’s U.S. Open.

The number to keep an eye on as the week progresses is 45th place. Players who finish 45th or better will be guaranteed tournament starts during next season’s schedule. Full scores here.

We are excited to announce a new section of the newsletter, The Friday Fade. We are teaming up with the fine folks at Skratch to keep you up to date on their latest and greatest video content. Without further ado, here’s their latest video that emphasizes the importance of the texas wedge over generations of golf.

The Side-Saddlin’ Sideshow

The annual FT Shootout kicked off in Naples, and the big story is the pairing of Bryson DeChambeau and LPGA star Lexi Thompson, each making headlines for different reasons. DeChambeau debuted his latest unique approach to golf with side-saddle putting. While the process looks extremely awkward, he was quite impressive dropping putts with regularity. Meanwhile, his partner Lexi Thompson held her own, becoming just the second woman ever to tee it up at the event. The duo of DeChambeau and Thompson fired a respectable 10-under par in Thursday’s scramble format and sit 6 shots back of the Wisconsinites, Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker, who scorched the course to the tune of 16-under. Today in the 2nd of 3rd rounds, the teams will play alternate shot before Saturday’s final-round of best-ball.

Blue Mound G.& C.C. Template Hole Mastery

The latest course review tours one of Seth Raynor’s under-the-radar courses, Blue Mound, in the Milwaukee area. Blue Mound’s average land site shows Raynor’s design genius as Blue Mound possesses some of the finest green complexes I have ever seen. Check out our full review here.

We’re sorry

The USGA said sorry to Dustin Johnson and golf fans everywhere on Thursday when they decided to eliminate the penalty for when the ball accidentally moves on the green. The only problem, they are six months late.
