Marky Marc and the Pep Band

Marc Leishman is your 2nd winner of the 2018-2019 PGA Tour season after winning the CIMB Classic by 5 shots. Big Leish birdied four of his first five holes on Sunday and coasted to his 4th career PGA Tour victory. Leaderboard

Marky Marc

Big Leish has been a world-class player for a long time but has only recently started tallying up the victories on the PGA Tour. He has been inside the top 50 on the FedExCup standings six of the last eight seasons and now has three victories in the last 18 months. His last win was a run-away victory at the 2017 BMW Championship, and this one was no different. He made 8 birdies on Sunday and removed all drama on his way to the trophy.

Only 5 Shots Back…

Even though they finished 5 shots back, the trio of Emiliano Grillo, Chesson Hadley, and Bronson Burgoon played some outstanding golf this weekend as they tied for 2nd. Grillo and Hadley have both won on tour before, but the T-2 ties Burgoon’s career best finish. It is paramount for mid-tier players to get off to strong starts in the fall, and these FedExCup points will prove very valuable when the playoffs roll around next year.

Other Leaderboard Notes

Justin Thomas seems to like these fall events in Asia. He is a two-time winner of the CIMB and won the CJ Cup last year. He shot a final-round 64 to tie for 5th place this week.

Abraham Ancer continues to impress on the PGA Tour. The 2017 Web.com Tour grad notched five top 10s last season and started strong this season with a T-5.

Shubhankar Sharma was in prime position to make a Sunday charge but settled for 72 and a T-10 finish. He burst onto the scene last season at the WGC Mexico Championship and continues to impress as India’s current star in the golf world.

Pepper Needs New Shorts!

Eddie Pepperell won his second event of the 2018 European season with a two-shot victory at the British Masters. The final round was a bleak affair at Walton Health, but Pepperell played steady golf and held onto the lead that he had built through 3 rounds. Eddie is an incredibly funny character for the golfing world and one the general public will be more exposed to in 2019. This victory moves him up to 33rd in the world rankings and secures him spots in the Masters and WGCs this year. (Some of the credit goes to his mum.)

Other notables at Walton Heath include Julian Suri (-4), Justin Rose (-3), Tommy Fleetwood (-2), Haotong Li (-2), and Andy Sullivan (-2). Leaderboard

Shotgun Start: Leish and Eddie P, a football-throwing debacle, and combat over tree removal

Brendan and Andy return from an eventful weekend to discuss results from across the globe. They review Marc Leishman’s win in Malaysia and Eddie Pepperell’s victory in England. Then they appreciate the dominance of Bernhard Langer and handicap his shot to break the all-time Senior tour wins record. After watching Conor McGregor’s hideous and viral attempt to throw a football in Dallas, they ponder who from the golf world would be most likely to commit a comparably embarrassing throw. Finally, they wrap with a discussion on the tree removal fight that has now gone public at Congressional. Listen on iTunesStitcher or Spotify

The latest addition to the Sand Valley Resort is the Coore & Crenshaw-designed Sandbox. This 17-hole par 3 course breaks many of golf’s conventions. Check out our full article and video on the course here.

Quick Hooks

In Gee Chun shot back-to-back 66s on the weekend to capture Keb Hana Bank Championship on the LPGA Tour. Leaderboard

Bernhard Langer won by 7 on the Champions Tour this week. He now has the largest margin of victory on that tour in each of the last 5 seasons.

Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Bryson DeChambeau have all announced they’ll play at the Shriners event in November. This is a part of the Tour requirement to add a new event to your schedule each year. Story
